Teaching Your Preschooler At Home – A Look Into Sonbeams

After sharing so many wonderful homeschool options over this past summer, I thought that it might be nice to give you a little closer look into what we offer here at Sonbeams. :)

The first impression by some might be to think that Sonbeams is just homeschool preschool, but that’s really not all we are. Our desire is to offer materials that encourage,  inspire, and guide entire families in their Christian walk - we just do have a lot that relates to the younger ages.

Because the start of the school year has either started, or is about to, I’d like to give you a closer look at some things that can help you as you prepare for a great new year.

For parents unsure of their homeschool decision, maybe feeling a bit inadequate, or that are dealing with criticism from others - we have put together an e-book, “Teaching Your Preschooler At Home”.

This e-book addresses the most common concerns and questions regarding homeschool preschool. Just preparing to homeschool can seem like an impossible task to tackle, but it’s really quite simple and, dare I say it…. fun? :)

Topics include: But It’s Too Hard!, But It’s Too Expensive!, But My Child Will Lack Social Skills…, But I’m Not Smart Enough/ I Don’t Have a Degree, The Parent’s Advantage, The Homeschool Advantage, plus more!

At the end, you’ll be welcomed into our Homeschool Preschool Room. I’ll walk you step by step through setting up your classroom all the way to detailed descriptions of our morning routine.

You’ll see how we set up our morning board – learning colors, the days of the week, letters, numbers, weather… something simple and fun! Then you’ll learn ways to ‘teach’ each part of your board, as well as instructions to create and teach with your own calendar and Bible verse charts.

 Excerpt:

Each day, ask your child how many days are in a week. As much as you’d like to help them, give them plenty of time to think and answer themselves. If they are right, praise them!! If they are wrong, simply encourage them to “count them with me and let’s see how many there are!”

Point to each day as you say the name. Sing the days of the week to the tune of “Merrily We Roll Along”, again, pointing to the correct day as you sing them.

Days of the Week Song –

There are 7 days in a week, in a week, in a week,

There are 7 days in a week, and I can say them all.

 Sunday, Monday, Tuesday,

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,

Saturday is the last day – and I can say them all!

Ask your child what day yesterday was, and point to it on the chart. What day do they think today might be?  If they seem unsure, silently point to the ‘next’ day after yesterday (today), and see if they recognize it by “reading”. If they still are unsure, slowly begin to sound it out – allowing them to finish if they suddenly remember, or you complete it and ask them to say it with you.

Set your mind at ease once you’ve read this resource packed full of information! Only $3.95 retail, this is marked down even lower as part of our Back To School Bash Sale going on NOW  –  just the ebook, or as a free bonus to our homeschool bundles – just what you need to get started!
