Again, I ask,
Will You Join Me?
Yesterday I shared one of my New Year’s resolutions for 2011 was to strive to be a better wife, one that honors her husband AND the Lord.
Today I’d like to share another burden I have for this upcoming year, to be a better parent, one that is a Godly example AND leads my children to the Lord. What more could I want than to have my children walk in the ways of the Lord, and one day walk the streets of heaven!
I am far from a perfect mother, way…. far. I get frustrated, I don’t know how to handle every single situation according to God’s Word, and yes, my children sin – and at times I am left wanting to give up and just cry. I can’t do it on my own – but thankfully God never leaves us!
It’s then that I realize that those moments are a result of my LACK of training, my lack of time spent teaching and studying with them on how God would have us to live and act.
That realization is a humbling one, and also one that makes my feet quiver in my shoes because one day I will stand before the Lord and account for my responsibility in raising HIS children.
So, I am determined that 2011 is going to be a year that I strive to spend more time teaching my children God’s Word and principles. For this, I have found several resources that I am thrilled with, and I’ll share just one today from Doorposts.
“For Instruction in Righteousness”, also by Pam Forester, is one of those “I HAVE to have that book!” books for me.
There are so many times that I’ve felt like throwing my hands up in the air, wondering how we ended up in the place we were at, and wondering how in the world we were going to get back on track!
As a parent, I want to teach my children what GOD says about what we should do and say, and what is right and wrong. “For Instruction in Righteousness” does just that!
A topical reference guide, you will find the book addresses many different character issues/ sins, and offers a Biblical approach to discipline and training.
Topics include:
| Pride Self-Righteousness Shifting Blame/Making Excuses Hypocrisy Stubbornness/Self-Will Disobedience Defiance Scoffer/Scorner Arguing/Contention Complaining/Ingratitude Brawling Woman Vanity/Overconcern for Beauty Judging Others Selfishness/Greed Confidence in Riches Envy/Jealousy Covetousness |
Theft Rules for Borrowers Easily Swayed/Double-minded Fainthearted/Easily Discouraged Depression Fear Worry/Anxiety Laziness Unfaithful Employee Haste Impatience Anger Gluttony/Pleasure-Seeking Immorality Sinful Thought Life Immodesty Wastefulness/Carelessness |
Drunkenness Lying/Deceit/Dishonesty False Witness Gossip/Slander/Tattletale Meddling/Busybody Foolish, Unclean Speech Flattery Hatred Bitterness Hitting/Biting/Kicking Revenge Cruelty/Bullying Unkind Speech Insensitivity/Lack of Compassion Bad Friendships Poor Manners Teasing/Troublemaking |
An excellent resource which uses Scripture as it’s authority, I am eager to dive right into this book! I’ll be sharing on our new Yahoo Group what we’re learning, and would like to extend an invitation to you once again to join me.
Can I say one more time, “I’m so excited to have God’s principles laid out in such an easy to follow way – no digging here and there for verse and illustration time after time – it’s all put together for me here!!!!!!”. Yippee!!!

This sounds great, Candace. I would love to join with you, but I don’t know how much computer time I’ll have to interact. I’m not real consistent with my computer time…as my blog shows…but I might consider the books. I’ll think about it and let you know, would Monday night be too late?
Hi Elizabeth! I will probably wait to mid or late next week to order, so you have a few days to think it over.
About the group, I’m not going to have a ton of extra time for it myself, but have it there in general for these books AS WELL AS general Christian parenting info.
It will be more of a group effort – everyone asking and sharing. We’d love to have you, even if it is limited time.
